Am I stronger now than I was last April when I ran the Muddy Buddy? YES. But I want to do better this time, enjoy it more, run the whole thing, complete all of the obstacles that do not terrify me or my running partners. I want to be a better teammate than I was last time.
So, here’s what I’m doing:
I know, besides running, that my weakness is upper body strength. So, I’ve started the No Girly Push-ups Challenge. I’m following the 100 Push-ups app to help strengthen my arms and build up my core and upper body. DOC and I started them together this weekend and I’m already up to 27. Can I lift my arms to wash my hair, no, but…. JUST KIDDING. I totally CAN still wash my hair. It just hurts, a little.
I’m doing the Spartan Race Workout of the Day. Most days. I’m trying to build up my endurance, my flexibility, and my strength. I do have to scale it back to what I’m capable of doing, but I’m pushing myself a little harder each time.
I know I can do these events, because I’ve finished before. This time, I just want to finish stronger.
Don’t forget to get registered for the Foam 5K in Richmond, VA on May 11th and./or the Pretty Muddy in Richmond on September 28 (or wherever you want to run!) My team name for both of the Richmond events is “Bold and Sparkly” and you are more than welcome to run with me and my family and friends or grab your own crew and start your own team. You KNOW we’re going to have a blast.
